After 14 years breaking news for CNN, Zain Verjee is bringing journalistic excellence back home as co-founder of aKoma Media, Africa’s premier digital storytelling platform. aKoma is a megaphone, amplifying African voices both globally and locally to tell the new story of an energetic and diverse continent.
Zain is one of the world’s most respected and recognized journalists, having interviewed everyone from Condoleeza Rice, to Lenny Kravitz, to Kofi Annan. She covered the attacks on September 11, the Iraq War, Kenya’s post-election violence, the fall of Moammar Gadhafi, and the terrorist attack at Kenya’s Westgate Mall.
She worked as a newsreader for The Situation Room, as a State Department correspondent, and as a co-anchor of CNN International’s Your World Today with Jim Clancy. She has her own production house, Zain Verjee Group, based in New York and Nairobi, with a focus on African businesses and lifestyle stories.
Among her many talents, Zain is also a writer who has published a children’s book, a book of poetry, and is now working on a detective novel and her Masters of Studies in Creative Writing at Oxford University.
