Q&A with Rocky Dawuni18/10/2017
African Speakers + Artists is proud to present What’s Up Wednesday, a light hearted series in which we get to know our most recent signees.
Favourite musicians, exciting news and snippets of advise…in a recent one-on-one with Rocky Dawuni an International afro roots music star and humanitarian activist ., here’s What’s Up:
- What are you up to at the moment?
I am doing a very interesting training program with the ITC, Mitreeki Program. I wrote the curriculum and am now implementing it. It covers the essential things fashion designers and entrepreneurs need to grow their businesses. I am applying my early teaching skills, using a lot of role plays, pairs and group work. I started with bringing out their individual values and passions and helping them define their unique DNA. The results have been amazing as people are working together and sharing. This is pretty much unheard of in the Kenya business scene, where traditionally everyone views the other as a competitor and enemy.
- What inspires you?
People who use their talents to make a difference in the world and to effect positive change inspire me.
- What are you loving hearing about right now?
I love hearing about the increasing move towards renewable energy systems and the increasing awareness of everyone’s responsibility towards the environment.
- Which 3 topics do you touch on the most in your talks?
Empowerment, culture and youth leadership.
- Who would you love to see speaking in person, and on which topic?
Empowerment of African Women in the 21st Century
- What’s next?
Next up I will be back in my home country of Ghana shooting a documentary video. I am also currently finishing up work on the follow up album to my GRAMMY nominated “Branches of the Same Tree” which I plan to release next year.
- Which was the most exciting gig you’ve been to this year?
Global Citizen in NYC featuring Stevie Wonder
- Who would you love to see perform and why?
That is a hard one as I have seen almost all of my favorite artists live. I would love to see Leon Bridges.Read more Read less
