First as a journalist and then later as an entrepreneur, producer and show runner, Marie Lora-Mungai’s work over the past 10 years has focused on creating compelling content that challenges the world’s understanding of Africa by bringing to light complex and fascinating African stories rooted in reality.
She is the Founder and CEO of Restless Global, a pan-African company focused on the development and production of Africa-inspired film & television projects for an international audience. Restless Global also advises international companies on their Africa expansion plans, on managing cultural differences, and on content creation and distribution across the continent.
Marie previously founded and ran Buni.tv, a pioneer African video-on-demand platform recently acquired by Trace TV/MTG Group, as well as talent agency Restless Talent Management, and production company Buni Media, known for its massively popular political satire shows The XYZ Show (Kenya) and Ogas At The Top (Nigeria).
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Marie had a successful first career as an award-winning television journalist, working across 3 continents and 15 African countries for CNN, Reuters TV, AFP TV and the BBC.
She is a regular speaker on topics such as the marketing and distribution of African content, the African mobile video opportunity, the power of political satire to affect change, and diversity in film. In 2013 she was named a Rising Talent by the Women’s Global Forum, and one of the “30 Women Who Matter” by L’Express Magazine. She was listed on the Choiseul Institute’s list of 200 Economic Leaders of Tomorrow in 2015 and 2016. In 2017 she was named one of “10 Female Entrepreneurs to Follow” by Forbes France.
