Joss Stone Q&A25/11/2016
Nairobi is a buzz as we gear up for a full production and performance from Joss Stone on 26thNovember at Purdy Arms. We’re very happy to share a few of her thoughts about music and her East African tour…
1 – How would you describe your music?
That depends on which album you are listening to! I love so many kinds of music that I tend to genre hop… but if au had to sum it up? It’s all about creating a groove.
2 – What are your top 3 music picks for 2016? (Either songs or musicians)
I wish I knew what was current but I have no idea!
3 -What is the main piece of advice you’d give an upcoming artist?
Don’t believe the hype. You will be surrounded by people who are there to tell you how amazing you are. But make sure there are people about who keep you grounded.
4 – What are your hopes and expectations of East Africa?
I know it will be beautiful and the people will be wonderful, I just hope that I can have a chance to experience some of that while I’m there.
5 – What is your next big project?
The Total World Tour is such a ridiculously huge project, that’s taking up a whole lot of my time over the next few years. There will no doubt be some music made over that time too!
6 – Who would be on your dream line-up?
Errr, you bring out the hard questions don’t you! There are so so many. I think James Brown would be on there, let’s bring him back. I think Nitin Sawney has an incredible ability to bring a sound together too from so many different types of music so he should be involved. And if Nitin is on board then I reckon some of the amazing artists I’ve collaborated with on the Total World Tour could get involved too.
… and a beat boxer, Reeps One from the UK is amazing. Always a good plan to have someone with that vibe.
7 – What are you listening to right now? (In your car/on your ipod?)
