Janet Mbugua-Ndichu is a Broadcast Journalist by profession and is a dynamic individual, who has become a household name, through her professional and good-natured approach to her job as a News Anchor, Reporter and Producer both in Kenya and in South Africa. She is currently a Prime Time News Anchor and Reporter on Citizen Television, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Her experience in Broadcast has seen her cover the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the 2007 Kenya elections and the 2012 U.S Elections and she has also interviewed high profile individuals across Africa and further afield, including in the U.S and Brazil
Janet started out in Radio at the age of 19 on Nairobi’s Capital FM, giving her an edge over most people her age, as well as allowing her to gradually gain confidence and credibility in her chosen field of Media. She studied for a BA in Mass Communication in Malaysia before returning to Kenya, where she moved on to television, becoming the host of the popular travel show Out and About on KTN, and later became a Prime Time News Anchor and Reporter, still on KTN.
She was then headhunted for the position of News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, as well as part-time host of the Pan-African Current Affairs show, Africa 360, by e TV in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2009.
She is the founder of the Inua Dada Foundation, an organization whose mission is to create a supportive and accessible environment for primary school girls in Kenya by conducting research to identify issues that hinder learning and working collaboratively with strategic partners to implement sustainable solutions (http://www.inuadadafoundation.org). With a focus on Menstrual Health Management, the organization has empowered more than 12,000 girls over the last two years.
She has ventured into to fields outside of broadcast including acting in TV series in 2014 and is now signed as a speaker with the Africa Speakers Association, ASA.
Some of her achievements include:
- Being named as one of the top three best News Anchors in Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya in 2014
- Being appointed Brand Ambassador for the Lifebuoy Help A Child Reach 5 campaign, representing Kenya globally in 2016She is currently pursuing her MBA
- Being one of the recipients of the Top 40 Under 40 Award by Business Daily Africa, in 2015
